Ratings for the Meeting on March 21st
Last Thursday, the Houston ISD board of education met for its monthly public meeting. One highlight of the meeting was that trustees voted to uphold the integrity of the annual auditing process by maintaining the structure of the audit committee proposed in December. Although the trustees were slated to vote on several policy measures to improve their own governance practices, they ultimately postponed taking action on those items. This allowed trustees to maintain a fragile peace for the evening but kept them from making a solid commitment to focusing on student outcomes. While some trustees seem to think that hiring a new superintendent will create a shift in structure and operation, this meeting was another indication that trustees must take on the task of adjusting their own actions in order to make improvements.
